Hospitalization for children aged 1 to 7 years is increasing. During hospitalization, there is a change in the environment that can be a source of stress for the child and the parents that cause trauma to hospitalization. Pain is a condition experienced by children while being treated in the hospital due to the procedures and equipment used by nurses. Atraumatic care is a therapeutic treatment by health workers in a health environment with several interventions that can be used to prevent physical pain experienced by children. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of atraumatic care in inpatient children and the physical response of children and parents during hospitalization in Payakumbuh. The research design was a mixed methods research with a sample size of 30 participants. The results showed that the application of atraumatic care was effective in reducing children's pain with p value (0.000). This study resulted in three themes, namely: eating disorders, sleep disorders, and neglect of physical disorders. The results showed that the physical responses of children included pain, sleep disturbances, refusing to eat, difficulty sleeping, crying, asking parents questions, and withdrawal. The response experienced by children varies. To get a better quality of service, nurses are encouraged to carry out atraumatic care so that physical disruption due to hospitalization can be prevented. Atraumatic care is a therapeutic treatment that aims to reduce pain and trauma inpatient care for children and the elderly.
